Hey there! Now that the majority of the world is working from home it’s so easy to loose track of days and time especially for those of us who are still getting accustomed to working from bedroom offices instead of a building or institution. However, the show will and must go on. That means you still have to wake up every day, brush your teeth or maybe not and still show up for work on that zoom call.
Some or many of you have fallen asleep next to your laptop and roll over at 8 am just in time to log in. Here’s some advice…STOP doing that. I’m here to give you that extra push and share some suggestions before you completely loose yourself.
The following is a list of items that make me feel and look better on zoom calls:
- Fancy Mug– If you haven’t heard already mugs are trending! I’ve purchased a few mugs that have awesome sayings on them to show off as I sip my coffee and tea. This also allows me to stay awake. 🙂
- Headband/Head wrap– I found the cutest Gucci look alike headbands on amazon. If you don’t have the energy to brush your hair go ahead and slip on that headband to calm the front of your hair at least, while you have a crazy entanglement in the back. I also own and use fashionable head wraps on wash days or days that I’m just feeling lazy.
- A Good Top– depending on your dress code, be mindful of the top you choose to wear. This sounds like the obvious, but stay away from pajama tops and t-shirts that are very loose around the neck. You should also stay away from sleeveless tops, it often makes you look like you’re joining the call in your birthday suit. *Tip* pick out your top the night before, in case it needs to be ironed. I would also suggest that you’re mindful of what you choose to wear or not wear on your lower body. Keep in mind that you may have to stand up to get something, if that’s the case wear pants or remember to turn your camera off before stepping away. Your best bet is to go with loungewear . Preferably an outfit that comes with the top and bottom.
- Notebook/Pen– You should always have a notebook and pen handy ready to take notes, even if you decide to doodle, who would know? At least you look professional and engaged. *TIP* nod your head every once in a while.
- Background Check– try to avoid clutter from your background. If clutter is a problem because you are in a small space or just too lazy to clean up make use of virtual backgrounds. There are plenty online. I would suggest backgrounds that have bookcases, or abstract that don’t have too many colors.
Bonus: I”m sneaking a sixth one in because I think its super important.
Lighting– If you are engaging on a call near windows try to sit with the window facing you, so the light is shining directly on your face. If there’s an open window behind you, you will appear dark and we won’t be able to see your lovely face.
It’s been a pleasure. Leave a comment if you wish to share, disagree or whatever. We’ll talk again soon, go ahead and get your act together. Peace and Love.
~Shine on 🙂
